Our
Statement of Faith
|
|
|
What we believe |
|
|
The following
is the summarized doctrinal position of
Lebanon Baptist Church: |
| |
|
|
|
| |
A. |
The
Bible, which is made up of the Old
and New Testaments, as originally
given is verbally inspired by God,
inerrant,
infallible, and is the
supreme and final authority in
matters of faith and practice. (II
Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
B. |
The
triune Godhead in three persons:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
|
|
| |
|
|
- |
The
Father, who is Spirit, infinite,
eternal, and unchangeable in all His
Attributes. (John 4:24; Exodus 4:6) |
|
| |
|
|
- |
The
Son, Jesus Christ: His deity, virgin
birth, sinless life, atoning death,
bodily resurrection, personal
return, and millennial reign on
earth. (John 1:1; Isaiah 7:14;
Hebrews 7:26; I Corinthians 15:3-4;
Acts 1:11) |
|
| |
|
|
- |
The
Holy Spirit is a divine person equal
with Father and Son and of the same
nature. (John 15:26) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
C. |
The
distinct personality of
Satan,
called the devil, who by pride and
ambition to be as the Almighty,
fell. (Isaiah 14:12-13; Revelation
20:2) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
D. |
We
believe in the
Genesis account of creation and that it is to be
accepted literally, not
allegorically or figuratively.
That man was created directly by
God, in God's own image and after
His own likeness. That Man's
creation is not a matter of
evolution or evolutionary change of
species or development through long
periods of time from lower to higher
forms. That all animal and
vegetable life was created directly
by God to reproduce "after its own
kind." |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
E. |
The
fall and lost estate of man whose
total depravity makes necessary the
new birth. (Romans 5:12; John 3:5) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
F. |
Salvation is by grace through
faith
alone in the shed blood and substitutionary death of Jesus
Christ, our Lord and Savior.
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7;
Romans 5:8) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
G. |
We
will either exist eternally with God
through salvation or eternally
separated from God because of
rejection of His Son. Those
who genuinely trust Christ alone as
their Savior are eternally saved and
can never be lost. Those who
reject Christ, as Savior will have
everlasting punishment in Hell.
We believe in a
literal heaven and a
literal Hell. (I John 5:10-13;
Matthew 25:46; John 5:24;
Philippians 3:21) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
H. |
The
Church, the Bride of Christ, in its
universal aspect comprising the
whole body of those who have been
born of the spirit; and in its local
expression established for worship,
mutual edification, and witness.
(Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:2-32; 4:11-16;
Acts 15:41; 16:5) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
I. |
Christ's great commission to go into
all the world and preach the Gospel
to every creature, making disciples,
baptizing, and teaching. (Matthew
28:18-20) |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
J. |
We do
not embrace new-Pentecostalism or
the charismatic movement. we
believe it wrongly emphasizes
certain of the spiritual gifts.
The movement places a high priority
on the experience of speaking in
tongues and "baptism of the
spirit." Oftentimes
"speaking in tongues" is
considered as evidence that one has
received the "baptism of the
spirit" subsequent to salvation.
For various reasons, and since there
is serious doubt about the
continuance of "tongues-speaking"
at all today, our church will not be
involved in either the practice of,
of the encouragement of "speaking
in tongues" in our public or
private ministries. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
Based on this doctrinal statement
and our interpretation of
Scripture... |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
K. |
We do
not support certain contemporary
trends (found in a growing number of
evangelical circles today) that
reflect a modern tendency to embrace
unscriptural positions which are
deemed "politically correct"
by the world and are commonly
accepted in the apostate, ecumenical
church: |
|
| |
|
|
- |
The
ordination of women as Pastors or
Deacons. |
|
| |
|
|
- |
The
acceptance of homosexuality as a
God-given ("I was born this way"),
God-permitted lifestyle - if
practiced within certain
"Scriptural" guidelines (i.e. a
loving, committed relationship)> |
|
| |
|
|
- |
We
will not support the use of music
that promotes and mimics the rock
beat as a means to evangelize the
lost or edify the church. Our
desire is to use music with a
variety of notes, color, melody,
harmony, and balance that never
blurs the Creator in the beauty of
His holiness, lifting up His
glorious attributes and character.
We will strive to have
Christ-honoring music in which text,
music, performers, and performance
practices are conforming to the
image of Christ. Therefore, we
sincerely believe our Biblical
paradigm for music stands
wholeheartedly on the standard of
Colossians 3:16, "Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly in all
wisdom; teaching and admonishing one
another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing with grace
in your hearts to the Lord." |
